El Ex-Ex / The Ex-Ex

...
I was on my second mojito and he was on his third piscola. It was always like that, we always got too drunk and laughed too hard. There's something that I'm not sure if it was my imagination, but didn't we once get out of the car to do it by the bushes? he said. It was true. We laughed. And what about the time my mom and brother got home early and we had to run from the family room to the kitchen with our pants around our ankles? I said. We laughed more. I don't know if it's because we were so young, but I wanted you all day, you had me horny all the time, he said. It was the same for me. Four hours after sitting at that table for two in the smoking section -- he said he had dropped it for two years but took it up again after he started doing sports, classic him -- we were on the sidewalk. He grabbed my hand and I let him. Old times sake? I asked. We got in his car and he drove me home but stopped in a side street just like when we left early from parties but I still got home when the birds were singing. We stopped talking. He put his hand on my bare thigh and leaned to kiss me. It all came back. I was 17 again and we were in his green jeep. He ran his hand up and down my leg and then up my back to unhook my bra. Then he unbuttoned my shorts and I felt him hard and big over his pants. And that's where I stopped it. He continued the way to my house and we said goodbye. I didn't ask him about his finace.

Casamientos, Exes, Etc. / Weddings, Exes, Etc.

Si no me interesa volver. Para nada. Y a él claramente tampoco.
...
Also, I'd like to call my ex and ask how he has been and if he misses me and why he hasn't thought of checking on me once since we broke up.
But of course I hold back. I wouldn't fall that low. And what's the point if I don't want to get back together and neither does he, obviously.
Today I found out another friend is getting married. I don't envy her, I'm just a bit surprised, just like when I found my ex-ex is getting married. While I'm here, being messed up.
I don't deny it's fun, just so stressful. That's the problem. I have to not care. I have to think, it was just a fun night, or dawn really, when I had fun with a handsome, fun Argentine, and that's it. I shouldn't expect more than that. He came, he left, and another one will come. He's not the cutest or the nicest and, on top of that, he was too young for me.
That's all. And with the photographer, I should take it easy because I don't want anything serious or to hurt anybody, myself included.

Cerveza Con El Fotógrafo / Beer With The Photographer

...
We met at Paseo del Sol, a kind of little plaza with unpretentious bars, right next to Alto Palermo mall. I spotted him and again thought to myself, is that really who I'm with? Plaid shirt, tight red pants, tattoos every where, mohawk. But his appearance is just that, because he's really very gentleman-ly and sweet, far from the anarchist punk he looks like. He told me I looked beautiful and helped with my chair. We talked about our past lives and lives in Buenos AIres. Then we walked to my house and I said goodbye with a kiss on his cheek and a promise to meet again. I think he's nice but doesn´t really rock my marbles.

El Fotógrafo Punk-Rock / The Punk-Rock Photographer

...
I think I've never held a conversation with someone like that. But there I was, giving my phone number to a guy wearing skinny jeans, a studded belt, and that had every inch of his left arm covered with a tattoo of a dragon. He also had a fake mohawk (faux-hawk?).
I asked him for some pants but he told someone else to get them and stayed talking with me instead. He asked me where I was from, what I was doing in Buenos Aires and told me he's a fashion photographer and that selling clothes is his part-time job.
I was trying on the pair of pants when I get messages from a girl friend that wants to get a drink. We were trying to decide where to go without many ideas because we're both new to the city. So when I was disbursing millions for a piece of fabric (this country is so damn expensive) I asked the nice salesman where would be a good place to go.
-You should go to galerias del sol, it's right around the corner,- he said. -It's a nice place. I could bring a friend and join you girls later.
I'm still not used to how quick men are in Argentina. I didn't like the plan so I lied,
-No sorry, my friend's going with her boyfriend.
-Then let's meet up some other day. Give me your phone number so we can arrange something.
I thought why not and gave it to him. We'll see but the idea of a punky fashion photographer sounds super glamorous to me. Meanwhile, nothing from the kid

El Pendex Por Primera Vez / First Time With the Kid

No zoom; sum.
Me gustó.
 ...
We were at a bar in cañitas neighborhood when my friend Pauli's cel rang, at around 12. It was the guy we met last weekend. She had Facebook chatted with him a couple of times during the week. I hadn't heard from the kid
They invited us to pre-game at one of their friends' place. We decided to go without debating it much. The other friend that was with us left because she has a boyfriend. And everytime that happens, I remember how great it is to do exactly what IIII want.
We got to one of those multi-purpose rooms. A bare room except for white, plastic chairs around a white, plastic table covered with bottles of different kinds of alcohol. And ten guys.
In seconds they sat us in opposite ends of the table and pushed glasses of rum and cokes in our hands. The kid got there a few minutes later -- he was clearly the cutest of the bunch -- and took one of his friends' place to sit next to me. We talked about dumb things, got drunk, and decided to go back to Crobar.
The kid knows somebody so we olympically skipped the line and got in for free and into the VIP. There, we danced, drank, got closer and closer as the place got more crowded. Every now and then this stereotype of an Argentine man whispered into my ear "let's go see your cats." The ones he had met last weekend, when he came to my place. I kept saying no, but who are we kidding, I did want to "go see my cats." So eventually we did.
I wasn't planning on having sex with him. I thought I'd cut it off before. But I don't know. He insisted a little bit and I gave in. He put on one of the condoms my boyfriend used (I still have an unfinished box) and it hardly fit. I liked it. I liked how he touched me. He did it well. He's the first non-boyfriend I've had sex with. The third guy, total. People who say sex with love is better, just haven't had good one-night stands.
When he got back from the bathroom, he put on his clothes on and left, without even laying with me for a bit. The best part is, I didn't want him to.

El Pendejo / The Kid

Me aparté.
...
"Let me be the first Argentine to eat your mouth," said the kid. How naive... he'd be the second! HA.
We were on the back seat of the car, his friend was driving, my friend next to him. We wer egoing at 90, 100, 120 (km/h) through Libertador. I moved my face away just to play because I did want him to eat my mouth, especially after he said it that way. I looked at the window and saw that the city was beginning to get covered by that white and light blue light of dawn.
I turned back to him and he kissed me aggressively and with rage, his tongue kind of raping me. I moved away. A second later we were glued together again, trees and buildings disappearing behind the Mazda3.
That night we had got together with my friend Pauli at my house. She brought a bottle of champagne and I had another bottle of champagne, but PINK. We drank both while I told her the details of my breakup and I attempted a smokey eye look in the bathroom with four drinks in my body. Which might be the secret because it turned out perfect. Or at least that's how it looked like to me at that time.
We got to Crobar and Pauli used the tried and effective strategy of playing the dumb foreigner (what do you mean we have to pay? But we came all the way from Chile!) to get in for free and this time they also let us go in the VIP, which always ends up being the same thing except with a little less people.
We danced for a while rejecting anyone for being ugly, or having hair gel, or having an ugly friend. Until the light was made. The  straight, long blonde hair one with dark eyes and a huge smile was for me. The dark built-up guy was for Pauli.
We danced a while and then they felt like going to the casino so we got in the friend's speedy car and went so that they could lose a little money.
"Hey, it'd be great to get some coffee now," the kid who was three years younger than me said in the car after he ate my mouth on our way back from playing black jack. Of course it was a charged question; we were on our way to drop me off.
I told thenm they could all come up. So there we were, the four of us drinking coffee in my living room with a view to the river. And that was all.
I clasify him as a typical Argentine. A sweet-talker, brash, handsome, fun guy. He lives in Belgrano and vacations in Mar del Plata. I hope I see him again.

El Primer Desconocido No Llamó / First Stranger Didn't Call

No volvería a llevarlo a mi casa.
¿No me estaré exponiendo demasiado? ¿Será mejor esperar a que esté sanita? Aprender a estar sola. Poder estar tranquila sola. Aunque no sé.
THE one.
....

I said that I didn't expext him to call, but inevitably I kept a little hope that he would. It's been a week and nothing.
I'd like to have him just for fun. To sometimes go dancing (had a great time dancing with him) and take him back to my house and roll in bed a while longer. Nothing else. But anyways, If he doesn't call, it shouldn't be too difficult to find another boy toy.
But he may still call. Why wouldn't he? I'm not ugly, and we had fun. Maybe because he got what I wanted and that's it? Maybe he thought it was too complicated? Impossible. I was a slut. Things as they are. Am I ashamed? A bit. Because I did something very risky. Took a stranger to my house. But other than that, no. I liked it. I don't know if I would do it again. I think not.
Definitely no. I mean, I'd fool around with another guy for the night. But I wouldn't take him to my house. It was a good experience. For one time. But also, it's always worked better when I'm a lady.
I said I'd fool around with a guy for one night. But is it prudent given my state of having been recently rejected by my boyfriend? Maybe I'm exposing myslef too much. Maybe I should wait until I'm healed. I should learn to be alone. To be alone and happy. But I don't know. Who says that's the right thing. In the end we're built to be with someone and at least I'm happier that way.
Still, I don't want a boyfriend right now. I just want to have fun and be shallow. For a long time I was in a serious relationship and it wore me out. I don't want to surrender so much again, yet. I don't want to invest so much energy in someone else. It's my turn to be selfish.
Also, I want to wait for truly the right one. I'm not giving up my fredom for just anyone. And to choose well, I have to sample. Lots! I've never had those kinds of frivolous relationships. I don't know how to do it and maybe I'll get hurt. Maybe it means exposing myslef more than with a serious partner. Because I know I'm sensitive and romantic. And those qualities do not mix well with friends with benefits.
But we'll see. That's what I feel like right now. I'll be very careful though, measuring the degrees of sluttiness and evaluating the risks.

El Primer Desconocido en Mi Cama / The First Stranger in My Bed

...
Why do I get myself into these messes.
I saw those dark eyes, framed in those thick eyebrows and those latin curls, and brought him to me with a smile. Being Argentine he was trying to kiss me before asking my name and I let him.
I was really hungry for that closeness, for a body, a mouth and arms to catch me or lift me, rather. And so I kept kissing him all night with thirst and desire. My own little stupid revenge.
I wanted more of him. I took him to my house but then I froze. What I wanted was to fall asleep with him holding me. He obviously had other ideas.
After a walk around my apartment he went straight to my bed and kept kissing me. He gave amazing kisses with those thick lips. He took off his own shirt as I had no intention of doing so and pulled off my dress. He was was strong and muscular. Warm and soft.
My attitude was to let him make all the decisions. That's how we got there. He said he would take a cab with me, he got out without being invited, but without me stopping him. He followed me into the building and got into the elevator and crossed the threshold of my door to go into my apartment, which not even my ex had seen.
We rolled in bed, sometimes I over him, sometime he over me. His mouth on my mouth, on my neck, on my collar bone on my bra, on my belly and his hands taking off my panties and I stopped him there. It was too much too soon.
I, who in my 26 years have only slept with two people, both guys that I introduced to my family and dated for years, was in bed, almost naked, with a man (a year younger than me, no less) who I had just met that night.
Why not? he asked and I explained the situation. Understandable, he said. And laid there looking at the moon (literally) and stroking my back for a while, until he said he had to go.
I put on the shirt I use to sleep in and watched him dress in front of the window. He had a tattoo on his back. I had asked what it meant when he first took off his clothes but he wouldn't tell me. He said he didn't want to talk about it. I liked that he had some kind of complexity in his life. And there he was covering it up again in the light of dusk, and putting on his pants. And I kept looking at him with a dumb smirk on my face because the whole situation seemed too muh like an American movie.
He kissed me again in the hallway, asked for my number and left. I don't expect him to call.

Abandono / Neglect

No sé quién soy. Intentar venir y estar a mi lado. Sola. Por ahora.

...
I don't know who I am. It's like I'm changing inside and sometimes I don't recognize myslef. I can't believe he had such a devasting effect in me and I hate to admit that he did. It's not even that I miss him. I don't. I don't miss his body. I don't miss speaking to him.. At the end I didn't have either of those things. I miss that support. That knowing that he was there, even if he wasn't, really. I see him online "available" but he doesn't talk to me. He hasn't talked to me since that day at the park. I never imagined a heroic gesture, never expected any weeping or pleading, no love letters. But I did think he'd say hi one day. Ask how I was doing. But he completely forgot about me and I'm in his past now. His ex. He didn't love me enough to try. Try to come here and be with me. He didn't want to and chose to stay there, at the other side of the mountain, alone and without me. He chose to leave me alone. Without even trying. Not even the breakup moved him. So now I'm here. Alone. For now.

Quiebre / Breakup

Me pregunté qué hacías tú. No te podía imaginar llorando.
...
I tell you we need to talk and you say tell me the time and place. I don't know why I expected some type of emotion from you. I don't know why if that's not you. You must be thinking it's a shame, because I know that you did care for me, but in the end it's better for you because I was getting too complicated, too demanding. Like wanting to, say, live in the same city. The fact that I'm ending it makes it so easy for you. You don't have to do what you dread, which is making an actual decision. And I leave you alone to keep building your blessed career.
And then you say let's meet at 9 because if we meet at 11 it'll cut your day. Because you might want to ride your bike. Even if you've never batted an eyelash before 1 pm on a wekend. But there you were, on time, earlier than I was, standing on the sidewalk. You were frowning, but you frown when you're worried, not when you're mad. Closer up, I noticed you had a white spot by your nose. Traces of a poorly washed face, toothpaste.
We didn't even kiss on the cheak. I said this isn't working. We walked towards the park and stopped in front of the grass and benches, on the cemenet, with the sun above us. I told you I was disappointed, that I never thought you'd be this way. You said things might have been different if you didn't feel so pressured. That you thought I was right in what I was asking but you would have done it at different times. I got angry again and tears dropped. I looked the other way, so mad at myslef for crying again. We stood there for a while, I facing one way, you facing the other. And we walked.
Then you started to recognize everything, letting me win every little battle that didn't matter anymore, because the war was lost: Yes you're right, I wasn't there for you. Yes, you're right, I should have made a bigger effort to put you over my work. If I had to do it again, I would do things differently. Sorry for the stress and grief that I made you go through, even if the damage is done.
But what for. Yes, you recognized everything. And that was it. You didn't ask me to give you another chance. You recognized, but for what.
Is it that you think I'm right, but I don't matter enough for you to try? That you don't love me enough? That everything is so fucked up that it's not even worth it anymore. That you wanted to end things well. Like out of compassion, give me something after all the damage. One parting gift and now you can merily go on with your life.
I thanked you for all your support when I left for the U.S. and thanked you for how good you were to me then -- you said you only had good things ot say about me, that I tought you many things and changed your point of view. Your voice broke. I saw your eyes were shiny under your hair. You were looking at your feet. I looked at your sneakers and noticed they were new. I was sad that I had no idea you bought them.
You took me home and we were quiet in your car. We said goodbye with a short, dry, awkward hug.
I cried. I got in my bed with my clothes on and soaked my pillow. I wondered what you were doing. I couldn't picture you crying. I saw you removing from your sight all of the things I had given you. The picture form the time we met, the pink stuffed animal, the little trinkets for your desk. Though, maybe, they were already gone.
